Stop. Drop, Throw Food Trays?
Guess there goes my dream of the DMX reality show coming back :(
DMX, who's currently in the midst of a 90-day stay at an Arizona prison after pleading out on theft, animal cruelty, and drug possession charges, is now facing aggravated assault charges after allegedly throwing a tray of food at a corrections officer who reprimanded him for taking food that wasn't his. DMX (real name Earl Simmons) was already in hot water at the jail for not reporting for a work assignment and not responding to a call for medications earlier this month; he'd been placed in lockdown and on a Nutraloaf-and-water diet for violating those rules. The Republic has helpfully provided a timeline of X's legal troubles since August 2007, when his house was raided by police, who found malnourished dogs, drugs, and weapons:
• The rapper was cited in May for going 114 mph on the Loop 101.
• In late June, Simmons was arrested in Miami on suspicion of attempting to purchase cocaine and marijuana from an undercover officer.
• In July, he was accused of theft of services and identity theft for trying to avoid paying $7,500 in medical bills from Scottsdale's Mayo Clinic in April.
• Also in July, Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies arrested Simmons at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court.
• In August, Simmons was arrested in Miami for failing to attend a Phoenix court hearing. He was extradited to Phoenix in September and paid a $25,000 bond for his release.
• In December, FBI agents arrested Simmons at the Florida mansion of music producer Scott Storch on a warrant out of Phoenix after the rapper again failed to appear in court.
According to MTV, DMX may have added eight years to his time in prison.

Numa Numa Next Gen
Ever wonder what would happen if the Numa Numa guy had a kid with Jonathan Lipnicki (the kid in Jerry Maguire)?? Neither did I...but I think this would be the answer :) Oh and notice he has multiple music videos lol...pretty funny.
"The fuckin zoo is closed, Ray!!"
"Ray: D'you know that the human head weighs 8 pounds?
Jerry Maguire: Did you know that Troy Aikman, in only six years, has passed for 16,303 yards?
Ray: D'you know that bees and dogs can smell fear?
Jerry Maguire: Did you know that the career record for hits is 4,256 by Pete Rose who is NOT in the Hall of Fame?
Ray: D'you know that my next door neighbor has three rabbits?
Jerry Maguire: I... I can't compete with that!"

Remember when people debated Kobe v. Tmac?
Remember when people debated who was better Kobe v. Tmac? Maybe it was location and circumstance, maybe it was Tmac's bad luck with injuries (though some attribute it to his workout ethic), I don't know. Tmac was/is a great player, but I think that debate can finally be put to bed. Sure, Kobe had Shaq when he got his rings, and he now has Gasol/Odom/Bynum et al....but Yao ain't bad and Tmac could never even get out of the first round?! Definitely not just his fault, but still...the records speak for themselves (both team and individual)....I'm sure this was put to rest a while ago...but if not...consider this the nail in the coffin on the argument:

Town Hall'n It
Regardless of his politics or what you think of the current Stimulus plan, I have to say that it's (sadly) impressive that President Obama held his town hall rally in Elkhart, Indiana. What's not impressive is that I've never heard of that city...the impressive part is that it turns out that Elkhart has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, as 15% of the people are unemployed (tripled in the last year). It also was not a city that voted for Obama in the general election, and supposedly none of the crowd or people who asked questions were prescreened. This may not seem like much...but to me it's a huge symbol of progress. Normally politicians only speak in favorable environments, where local politicians or groups select who gets to attend, and people asking questions (if even allowed) are scripted or put in place by the speaker's team. It is being reported that none of this went down today...that it was simply first come first serve, and the people asking questions were not operatives of Obama. He actually seemed to be talking to the people and honestly answering their questions/concerns as evidenced by the lady who asked about Obama's cabinent tax controversies. It looked like either she was being booed or hushed or something, but Obama said it was a valid question and went on to address it. Pretty cool that so far he seems to be maintaining his connection to the public that was such a large part of his campaign.
The Dangers of Twitter....
So just heard a story about a congressional delegation that went to Iraq and how one of the Congressmen breached security through twittering haha. These trips are supposed to be a secret, for the obvious reasons is that you don't want to broadcast about our foreign officials in Iraq for obvious security reasons. News outlets that knew of the trip had been told that the information was embargoed, and the congresspeople were also told to stay quiet. Well....genius Rep. Peter Hoekstra, R-Mich., decided it would be a great idea to twitter about the trip....where he wrote in live time:
"Just landed in Baghdad. I believe it may be first time I've had bb service in Iraq. 11 th trip here. 8:41 PM Feb 5th from TwitterBerry"
"Moved into green zone by helicopter Iraqi flag now over palace.Headed to new US embassy Appears calmer less chaotic than previous here. 10:56 PM Feb 5th from TwitterBerry"
Probably not the smartest idea to broadcast live where you and other congress people are heading, and your existence in the country/itinerary...good to know he was a member of the House Intelligence Committee. :)

The Rap Pack...
Well, the 51st Annual Grammy Awards have come and gone. I thought the show was long and about as semi-entertaining as most award shows. While some don't like the mash-ups of artists old and new, I actually do enjoy the performances where you get to see artists in different genre's come together. It doesn't always work, and some people prefer the purist view of just having the artists play their own hits...but I kind of like the break from the ordinary. I would say that I do agree with the idea that they should go back to having a host...or give the presenters a little more freedom (or poorly scripted jokes or something) to spice things up a bit. I also agree with the complaint that they always seem to have the award winner performing right before their award is announced...give us a little suspense please. Finally, I like to think of myself as fairly open-minded musically, and try to listen to a little bit of everything....but why does it seem like every year there are 4 nominated songs/albums/artists that I either like, or at least know about..and then someone else whose song I've never even heard wins. I realize air-play and popularity shouldn't be what matters...but if the album is that great, shouldn't I have at least heard it mentioned at some point? I dunno....maybe I just need to step my game up.
Anyways, I enjoyed Wayne's New Orleans tribute with Thicke and all the NO jazz people, was disappointed in the lack of girls kissing girls during Katy Perry, thought Taylor Swift, McCartney, and Coldplay all did well...well actually everyone was good...but nothing was amazing or stood out.
I suppose the biggest surprise/highlight for me was bringing together Kanye, Jay Z, Wayne, and TI to do Swagger Like Us (though poor MIA shoulda just been behind a podium or piano or something...cuz I was afraid she was gonna have the baby right then on stage...and being honest...its her hook...but she just doesnt belong with the other 4)

Bow Down to TicketMaster?
I've always wondered how Ticketmaster managed to get a monopoly on ticket sales and basically have no competition. If you want to go to a concert, you pretty much have no choice but to use Ticketmaster, which then hits you with surplus charges as a "convenience fee". What's the convenience when you only have one option? I know anti-trust/monopoly lawsuits have been thrown at them, but ticketmaster still exists as your only option for concert tickets unless you want to wait and get them from a secondary source, which basically means ticketmaster got a fee and know you get to pay marked up prices. Anyway, I guess now it's even worse with this new thing called TicketsNow which is part of Ticketmaster....and supposedly Ticketmaster may merge with Live Nation...great :( Supposedly, Ticketmaster reserved some of the tickets for the Springsteen concert to go to TicketsNow which then marked them up above face value...so even though there were still face value seats available, Ticketmaster sent the seats to a secondary site at higher costs to the fans. Springsteen got mad and wrote an open letter condemning Ticketmaster's acts. Ticketmaster apologized and refunded the differences, I guess that's why you don't mess with a dude they call the Boss. Or as the Idolater put it, "Translation: Please don't say the word 'antitrust' too loudly, Bruce. Please? The public opinion about our merger is bad enough, but we really need this to happen, otherwise we're screwed."
Read the article on the Idolater about the whole situation, it's pretty interesting.

The Fightin Blagos!!!
So each year, our law school puts on a huge dodgeball tournament. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and it's a lot of fun. Anyways, I named my team the Fightin Blagos in joke "tribute" to our idiotic/@ssclown alumn Rod Blagojevich. As part as the application to play, you have to answer a series of questions including...
1. Nickname
2. Fave Warm Up Song
3. The Animal You Most Play Dodgeball Like
4. Who You Would Like to Dedicate Your Performance To
5. Favorite Pre-Game Meal
6. Teacher you would most like to hit with a Dodgeball
7. SportsCenter like catch-phrase for when you do something cool
Sooo...it's time for some blog participation...comment with your Blago themed suggestions. I have some ideas, but everyone on my team needs stuff too, so lets get some creative suggestions (if anyone is reading this blog yet haha).
Just to give yall some ideas...
I thinkin my Nickname will be Pay-Rod.
I will be dedicating my performance to Mandela, King, Ghandi and other great heroes like myself. (if uve been following Blago, u get it)
The rest are all undecided...
I put Vodka-Tonic as my favorite pre-game meal....but any good ideas?
My SC catchprhase was just gonna be my nickame, Pay-Rod! or Show Me The Money...or just Expletive Deleted!!! everytime I do something cool.
I need animal suggestions...Hairy Mammoth?
And song ideas...what is your favorite....
So far I have:
1. I Am Not My Hair - India Aire feat. Akon
2. Cut Your Hair - Pavement - which as an interesting fact...is also the Theme song to Pardon the Interruption on ESPN :)

Vans West vs. East (and Europe) Fourty-Four Hi Pack
Well, I'm not the biggest shoehead, and I'm not gonna pretend to be...sometimes I see things I like though. These were actually brought to my attention by Drew. The orange ones and the black and blue ones look pretty sick with the upcoming East & West unis for the NBA All Star Game next week in Phoenix.
Here's the info on em from Hypebeast:
Created under the pretense of an innovative cupsole sneaker with a toned down profile, the Vans Fourty-Four Hi sees itself in the middle of a multi-party collaboration to kick things off for spring 2009. Bringing on-board West Coast representatives Crooks & Castles (and mystery shop), East Coast crew 5Boro of New York (and mystery shop) City and Danny Wainwright of the UK, a total of five models can be seen in a West vs. East vs. Europe affair. Availability will be exclusive to each coasts while the arguably hottest joint via Danny Wainwright will be available to all starting this month.

Will.I.Am - Take Our Planet Back
First, I was thinking....hmmm...when did Will.I.Am become the musical voice of politics/revolution/change/social justice...whatever you want to call it. Not that it's a bad thing, I was just wondering where the transition came from songs like Joints & Jams, Lets Get Retarded, Got it From My Momma, Ayyer, Fergalicious, etc....to becoming so active politically and seemingly having every new song about the state of the world at the moment. But it doesn't really matter, at least he is trying to make an impact, so I definitely give him credit for that. Musically, don't care for this song as much as Yes We Can, It's a New Day...but the video is pretty powerful and it's still a good message....plus he uses my mom's choir again :) So enjoy...and see what you think for yourself!

Santonio Holmes X LeBron James
Above: Video of Santonio Holmoes doing the LeBron chalk move as his celebration for his game winning touchdown!!
Good times with Super Bowl XLIII!! Pretty exciting 4th quarter. Going into the game I didn't really care who won. Raiders don't even know there are playoffs, and the Chargers fell short once again. That being said, prior to the game I decided to root for the Steelers. My primary reasons were: I pretty much like the players on each team, but I wasn't too excited to see Matt "Clipboard/Beer Bong" Leinart get a ring. I also like how physical the Steelers play, and how Hines Ward, Polamalu, & Co. destroyed someone on weekly basis during the season. Plus Mike Tomlin seems like a cool coach, and any team who lets Omar Epps coach them is cool in my book. My other reasons were that the Steelers ownership help get the Rooney rule to help with minority coaching hirings. Politically, the Rooneys/Steelers also did a lot of work in Pennsylvania and donated a lot to Obama's campaign, whereas Arizona is well....Arizona. Plus, I support our President, and he was rooting for the Steelers haha! But also, the party I went to was filled with former UofA people, so out of the 30-50 people at the party, there were exactly 3 of us cheering for Steelers. Even though Pitt was slightly favored, it felt like I was rootin for the underdog. Good game, Good party, good times.

Presenting: Colin Munroe
Another rated Next artist brought to light thanks to the people over at Prince of Gundo. Munroe has a nice voice with a different sound to it, and has put together a very interesting mixtape mixing his vocals with hip-hop verses by special guests, doing a U2 cover, and generally just putting together a quality and creative album. Check out the above video featuring Wale. Then download the entire mixtape which I highly recommend here: Colin Munroe is the Unsung Hero Mixtape
Presenting: Kid Cudi
Soooo...if you're reading this, it's probably too late, you already know. But for those of you who are a lil slow, or just for the ability for me to say I told you so later....Kid Cudi should be one of the next big things in hip-hop. I heard about him quite a while back from the Prince of Gundo, and we even went to see him live at Cinespace in Hollywood just about the time Day N Night was taking over the radio. But don't think Cudi is a one hit wonder, his entire mixtape is awesome all the way through....and I'm definitely looking forward to his release of an in-store album eventually...

Well...since I brought out the Lakers....I might as well keep with the theme....my fave sports teams + 80s + cheesy song + goofy white guys (see Rambis and Howie Long) trying to rap = timeless classics.
Just Say No!
It's great to when watchin Magic on TNT, Worthy analyze the Lakers, or Scott coach the Hornets....to remember them in their prime. I actually remember watching this video back when I was little, and I attribute it to saving my life. Ok...not really.....but its still awesome :)
